Neapol

Naples is the administrative center of Campania. It is located 185 km southeast of Rome. It is an important port, center of industry and trade. According to legend, the Greek settlement of Parthenopé, named after a mythical siren, stood here in the first half of the first millennium BC. At the beginning of the 5th century. here the rivers of Kýma founded the settlement of Neapolis. The center of Greek Naples was near today's port and quickly developed into the rich economic center of Campania. The Romans took control of this area in 326 BC. l .. However, Naples still retained its Greek character until the fall of the Roman Empire and until 79 AD, when the surrounding cities were ravaged by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, which undoubtedly includes Pompeii and Herculaneum. From the end of the 4th century, the city suffered from countless invasions by enemies such as the Visigoths, Vandals, Ostrogoths or Byzantines. In 1139, Naples became part of the Sicilian-Naples Norman Empire. The Hohenštanf family took over their government. After 1266, the Anjou family brought the city to a great building boom. It was not until the Aragonese capital that Naples became the capital in 1442. Soon after, the city was incorporated into the Kingdom of Sardinia of Italy in 1860. Naples is unforgettable not only the beautiful location of the bay, but also the islands of Capri, Procida and Ischia. Also the wall of the Sorrento peninsula leading to Capri and with the volcanic Vesuvius in the nearby hinterland.
