5 tips on how to dress in Italy
Italians like to dress well, fashion is part of Italian culture. There is no single style, but there are certain rules that Italians follow when it comes to dressing.
1. Opt for light, natural colours rather than rich, bold colours. In summer, pastels are worn. But you can never go wrong with beige, cream, grey, white and black.
2. If you are a woman and want to be indistinguishable from Italian women, always wear at least light make-up. Groomed hair, eyebrows and finger and toenails are taken for granted.
3. If you are going to visit a church or other sacred place, do not wear a strapless top or tank top. The Italians would consider it a sign of disrespect. Gentlemen should wear long trousers for the same reason.
4. shorts are not considered appropriate evening wear in Italy, for either men or women. In general, Italian men do not wear them very often.
5. Pay attention to your footwear too, it should always match your outfit. In Italy, socks are not worn with sandals or slippers. Also, you don't walk around town in flip-flops, which according to Italians only belong on the beach. White socks are only acceptable in sports shoes.
