AUTOBUS
The cheapest means of transport is the bus. If you opt for this means of transport, keep in mind that schedules are often not followed, especially in months like July and August, due to the traffic that congests the SS 163.
The area is served by SITA, which runs frequent services from Salerno and the Sorrento peninsula. Only the main stops are marked on the maps usually provided to tourists. If you are in doubt and do not know where to get off, I recommend asking the driver to advise you where to get off.
Services run very frequently, especially in summer, and timetables change frequently: when you arrive at your destination, I recommend checking the sign posted at the bus stop to see when your return service is running.
SITA tickets are on sale at newsagents, newsagents, bars and also at the terminus. Please note that tickets cannot be purchased on the bus. In particular, they must be validated to avoid being fined.
The price varies depending on where you want to go. All information on prices can be found on the official SITA website. There are also special tourist tickets COSTIERASITA and COSTIERATERRA&MARE, which are valid for 24h and are perhaps a better option if you want to travel between towns on the Amalfi Coast.
There's no point in looking for timetables on the internet well in advance, as mentioned, they change frequently and have delays due to traffic. Get to the bus stop and wait patiently.
TRAJECT
The ferry is the most popular means of tourist transport. You can avoid the traffic and spend all your time visiting the Amalfi Coast.
Tickets can be purchased at the port or on the company's website. For some routes, a return ticket is priced slightly lower than for a single route.
Ferries run regularly from April to October, approximately twice an hour. Several shipping companies connect different cities daily, the most important of which are Travelmar and NLG.
CAR
If you have decided to visit the Amalfi Coast by car, you are very brave! Driving on the SS 163 is not difficult, but requires great care due to the frequent curves and the narrowness of the road in several places.
Don't underestimate the cost of parking: an hour of car parking in Positano and Amalfi costs up to 4-5 euros in the blue lanes, and you are not guaranteed to find a space! There are also private garages which are also quite expensive; in many cases they ask you to leave the keys as cars are constantly being moved around to fit as many as possible.
