Marina di Grosseto is located in Maremma, the southernmost part of Tuscany on the border with Lazio, two hours from Florence (160 km) and two and a half hours from Rome (230 km). The most convenient way to get here is by car, which will certainly come in handy for travelling between the villages, beaches, spas and natural areas of this beautiful part of Tuscany.

If you are planning to spend a weekend in Marina di Grosseto and its surroundings, here are the beaches that you definitely must not miss:

  • Cala Martina, Cala Violina e Cala Civette: if you decide to go to Cala Violina, the wild paradise beach, so called because of the sound the sand makes when the wind blows, remember that you must book a place on the website : https://www.calaviolinascarlino.it/it/ (1€ entry, 10€ parking for the day)
  • Punta Ala: A long sandy beach about 6km long on the headland of the eponymous cape, south of Follonica Bay. The sandy part lies in the north of the promontory, while in the south there are small coves that can be reached on foot or by boat
  • Principina a Mare: the beach at the mouth of the Ombrone River has been awarded the Blue Flag for several years
  • Le Rocchette: a sandy beach among pine trees, named after the ancient fortress above it. The beach, famous for its crystal clear water, is mainly equipped with several free stretches.
  • Le Marze: a sandy beach, mostly free and in some sections equipped with services, is located along the coast from Castiglione della Pescaia to Marina di Grosseto. Behind it, hundreds of dunes separate it from the fragrant pine forest.
  • Marina di Grosseto: free and equipped beaches, clear water and shallow sea, ideal destination for families with children

Riserva Naturale della Diaccia Botrona

A visit to the protected nature reserve of Diaccia Botrona, between Grosseto and Castiglione della Pescaia, is one of the experiences not to be missed. The reserve was created on the site of the ancient Lake Prile, which has dried up and is now a wetland of international importance, home to plants and animals of all kinds. Visitors can observe various species of birds, mammals and reptiles in the inland area, including hawks, herons, geese and ducks, foxes, andbadgers, hedgehogs, porcupines and tortoises, as well as the beautiful colonies of pink flamingos that migrate into the reserve from autumn to spring.
