A taste of the real Italian Margherita

When we say the word Italy, most of us immediately think of Italian pizza - a typical and very popular dish known around the world. It is a round savory pancake (pie) made of leavened dough, baked in the oven and filled with tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese and other ingredients to taste.

 

Yeast savory cakes in the style of pizza (something like today's focaccia) were baked by the ancient Greeks and then by the Romans, the name probably comes from words denoting bread - pitta or picea.

 

Pizza in its current form began to be baked in the south in Naples from the 18th century, real Neapolitan should have a max. and basil. This species was named in honor of the wife of King Umberto I, Margaret of Savoy, who enjoyed the pizza very much when visiting Naples.
