Italian waterfalls

Capelli di Venere

This article is dedicated to the beautiful Italian waterfalls, which are among the jewels of the natural wonders of the world. It brings not only a glimpse of the breathtaking scenery, but also the possibility of sporting activities, since to explore them you need to take pleasant, sometimes challenging, walks.

The breathtaking Capelli di Venere or Venus' Hair waterfalls are located in the Campania region. Legend has it that one day the goddess Venus herself found this mysterious place and wanted to rest here for a while. As a young shepherd passed by, he saw the goddess sleeping. His enchantment with Venus' beauty immediately turned to love, and without hesitation he cut a lock of her hair, waking her up. The goddess became angry with the shepherd, turned into water and drowned the shepherd. Once it was over, however, she began to regret her action, and decided to turn the fateful spot into a beautiful waterfall, which to this day commemorates the shepherd's love. The falls are located just one kilometre from the town of Casaletto Spartana, where visitors can park their cars and take a trip towards the falls. You pay 3 euros per person and the ticket includes access to the falls, the trails and also the picnic area. It's also possible to take a dip, but be warned that the water is around 6 - 7 degrees and is ideal for those who like to cool off.

In the Umbria region, just 7 km from the beautiful town of Terni, is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Italy, Cascata delle Marmore. It is set in the Valnerina valley and was created in 271 BC by order of the Roman consul Manius Curius Dentatus. The waterfall reaches a height of an impressive 165 metres, making it one of the largest artificial waterfalls in the world. Crystal-clear water flows down the three continuous levels of the majestic waterfall. Visitors have a choice of two locations from which to admire the beauty of the waterfall: The Lower Viewpoint (il Belvedere Inferiore) and the Upper Viewpoint (il Belvedere Superiore). The Upper Lookout starts in the town of Marmore and offers a breathtaking view from the top of the first level of the waterfall. On the other hand, the Lower Belvedere, located on the road leading to Valnerino, offers a total view of the waterfall in all its majesty. Admission costs 10 euros, but the price is reduced to 7.50 euros for groups of more than 15 people. Children under 4 years old get in for free, and visitors over the age of 70 pay only 8 euros.

a short distance from Trento is the Orrido di Ponte Alto canyon, which is decorated with two beautiful waterfalls reaching 40 metres, their waters falling into a narrow canyon between the rocks. For safety reasons, the visit to these waterfalls is only possible with a guide, the whole excursion lasts about 45 minutes and is accompanied by information about interesting facts of the place. Tickets must be booked in advance online at this site - ecoargentario.it.

In the beautiful historic centre of the Italian town of Isola del Liri there is a uniquewaterfall, which is part of the Liri River that flows past the Monastery of St. Dominika a dělící se na dvě části poblíž skály, na níž se tyčí hrad Boncompagni-Viscogliosi. The picturesque atmosphere of this enchanting place is thus made even more pronounced by the presence of not only the waterfall but also the majestic castle.

Finally, we look to the north of the peninsula, to the Valle d'Aosta region, which, for the record, is the smallest region in the whole of Italy. Here you'll find the three-tiered Lillaz waterfalls, nestled in the heart of the Gran Paradiso National Park. The park is surrounded by plains with lush vegetation and also creates an ideal setting for mountain lovers. The quickest way to get to the falls is to park in the village of Lillaz and walk about 10 minutes directly to the destination. I wish you a wonderful discovery of the waterfalls and an unforgettable travel experience !
