The Casina Vanvitelliana was built in 1782 by the architect Carlo Vanvitelli, son of Luigi (the famous designer of the royal palace of Caserta), commissioned by Ferdinand IV. It is a perfectly preserved gem of late Baroque architecture. Also known as the Royal House of the Bourbons, the building was built as a place where the king could rest after his usual hunting and fishing expeditions. Later, the house also hosted important personalities visiting the Kingdom of Naples.
At first glance, it impresses with its peculiar construction, with a twelve-sided plan and two terraced levels. The building stands on a small promontory on Lake Fusaro. An elegant wooden pier leads to the Casino Vanvitelliana, which is open to the public. The rooms are unfortunately rather bare and without original furnishings.
