Vico Equense - Sorrento

Sorrento - Vico Equense

Vico Equense is the first town on the Sorrento Peninsula. Tourism has only developed in recent years. But of course there are beautiful beaches where you can relax and restaurants where you can taste the excellent local cuisine. Hikers and nature lovers can climb to the top of Monte Faito, the highest peak of the Lattari Mountains, for a breathtaking view of the Bay of Naples.

The town of Vico Equense, which was considered an important trading centre by the ancient Etruscans and Greeks, is a real "open-air museum".

In its historic centre of medieval origin, you can find the magnificent Annunziata Cathedral , the only Gothic-style religious building on the entire Sorrento coast, or the Giusso Castle.

Castello di Giusso

The town is also home to the famous thermal baths of Scrajo, which, thanks to their sulphur springs, offer therapies for respiratory and dermatological ailments.

The town of Vico Equense is bathed by the Tyrrhenian Sea and also offers several excellent beaches where you can relax under the sun.

Scrajo Mare

is one of the most famous beaches, located close to the Scrajo Spa. The beach is surrounded by high rocky cliffs and is characterised by a pebbly beach and cool, clear water. Here you will find sun loungers, parasols, changing cabins and a refreshment stand. Cold showers are free, hot showers are token-based. The beach is suitable for children and the disabled.

How to get to the beach:

by train

From Napoli Centrale station you can take the Circumvesuviana line towards Sorrento. The journey to Vico Equense takes about 50 minutes

by car

From the A3 Naples - Salerno motorway, take the Castellammare di Stabia exit and continue on the Sorrentina 145 national road. After about 10 minutes you will see a sign on the right hand side for Scrajo with an exit to the car park

Not far from here, on the border with Castellammare di Stabia, is a beautiful place known as Banco di Santa Croce, which is home to many animal and plant species, such as red coral, a paradise for snorkelling!
